The mission of Associates in Applied Psychology is to assist our clients in achieving optimal return on their investment in human resources through the application of the research, principles and methodologies of organizational and industrial psychology. We provide state-of-the art social sciences technology and quantitative research-driven services in:

For more than three-quarters of a century psychologists have made major contributions to human resources knowledge and practices in American commerce, including, to cite just a few:

    • Edward Hay’s pioneering efforts in developing systems for job evaluation and pay/salary structuring to ensure equitable, competitive and cost-effective targeting of human resource funds
    • David McClelland’s work in competencies and motivation, underpinning the approaches to performance development and training that are intrinsic to most employee evaluation, coaching and development programs in place today
    • Rensis Likert’s conceptual model and methodology for studying and leveraging the dynamics of employee opinion and psychological engagement to enhance organization performance
    • C. G. Jung’s personality typology which served as the foundation for the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator used widely in candidate testing and selection, team building and manager development.

In fact, in virtually every content domain in human resources (pay practices, incentive design, performance evaluation and development, employee opinion analysis, organization development, employee selection and retention, and even benefits design) psychology has made key substantive contributions to theory, research and practices that enhance organizational effectiveness.

Associates in Applied Psychology is proud to continue the behavioral sciences tradition in human resources consulting. Projects are designed and managed by
Charles F. Schanie, Ph.D., an organizational/industrial psychologist with more than 25 years of experience consulting to American commerce, much of it with major companies, healthcare systems and universities. Because of the depth and breadth of his experience in multiple human resource consulting disciplines, he brings a unique perspective on the many facets of human resource programs and the potential for the dynamic integration of the component elements.

Dr. Schanie was a Senior Principal and Human Resources Practice Leader with Mercer Human Resources Consulting for 18 years where he built the initial data analysis systems for base pay/salary and employee opinion analysis. He’s driven now by a passion to return to the mode of a consultant entrepreneur with all the attendant freedoms of an independent enterprise.

Associates in Applied Psychology offers creative Fortune 500-level consulting to organizations of varying sizes. We provide consulting at rates that are highly competitive because we do not carry the overhead of the major consulting firms.

Associates in Applied Psychology delivers time-sensitive and consultant-responsive services which improve the commitment, connection and engagement of employees relative to the organization’s goals. Our clients’ pursuit of organizational success through improved human resources functioning is a passion in our consulting work. We treat each client organization as a unique entity. We carefully analyze the organization’s current status and background in advance of developing our final project plan. Every project we conduct is tailored to the specific conditions and needs of the client organization. We do not use the “canned” solutions that characterize a lot of consulting today.

Associates in Applied Psychology subscribes to the credo of Napoleon Hill, a protégé of Andrew Carnegie and a lifelong investigator of the competencies of successful individuals. Hill counseled, “No wealth or position can long endure, unless built upon truth and justice. Therefore, engage in no transaction which does not benefit [the other party].” We work very hard to look after our clients’ best interests and endeavor to build our business relationships on the principle of true partnership.

While we regard our market as nationwide, our Louisville location makes us very accessible to clients in a number of surrounding major cities, including, but not limited to: Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Nashville, Columbus, Dayton, Cleveland, Akron, Toledo, Detroit and St. Louis.

We welcome all requests for proposals (RFP’s) for human resource services. And if for some reason you don’t need a full-blown project, but would like some over-the-shoulder support or hand-holding, we’re prepared to consult with you on an ad hoc basis at our daily or hourly consulting rates.

Call us today at 502-584-2112 for a free telephone consultation on any of your current human resources needs in: base pay and salary systems, short- and long-term incentive plans, performance evaluation and development systems, employee opinion surveys and organization development, employee benefits design research, and employment testing and selection.
